If you don't have a daughter, then you don't have a clue.
I have seen some transgenders, and I have nothing to say to them.

That's ridiculous. You don't need to have a daughter to know that sexual harassment of any person, of any age or gender, is wrong.

Besides, I'd rather have my child be in a room with a transgender than be in a room with you. If they recognized a transgender and asked questions, I could answer their question adequately enough. For violent people like you, and the girls in that video, all I could tell them is that some people are ****ed.

I can understand that you want to protect your daughter, like you said. Can you explain exactly what you'd be protecting your daughter from, in this case? You seem to think that simply being a transgender and going to the bathroom is a crime against your daughter.

People, the single worst thing that the Mac community faces in the area of security is upon us right now...

Little security experts who cry exploit.

Thanks to the media jumping at anything that looks like it could be a security problem with Mac OS X, we now have security experts who are willing to make half-baked claims to draw attention to themselves. But even more frightening is the fact that the Mac community isn't a target because it is a good target or an easy target... no, we are a target because it is the most notable target these days.

So, how do we fix this?

    Frankly, I don't know.

    ...........<text omitted>............

The only thing I can suggest (which I doubt anyone will follow) is to avoid the hysteria. When a real threat emerges, you'll most likely hear about it long before you are actually in any danger from it.

I am with you 100%. Every time one of these 'expert reports' comes out, I see a plethora of panic posts following it. The common theme is; 'we're screwed, someone save us, why doesn't Apple do something!

I think the majority of the security reports are motivated by ego, or most likely, profit. When companies like Network Associates funds a security vulnerability study, it is not done because they are a concerned, benevolent member of the technical community. They are out to make a buck. What they promote is fear. What they sell is reassurance. Nice gig.

I have to wonder how many people discussing audio quality buy their movies from iTunes vs Blu-Ray.

Just asking since apparently those people are so concerned with getting optimal performance from their media.

Not to take this off topic - but too many people have been duped by all the streaming serves and cable companies to believe they're getting a true HD experience when, in fact, they aren't because of the astronomical bitrate difference between what can be streamed vs delivered by hard media at current.
Not me. Most movie viewing comes from my collection or from Netflix. Netflix BDs in the mail, that is. And over half of the reasoning for that is the audio. I had great audio before great video.

Currently trying to decide how to begin purchasing music again. I've been out of the market for years, except for a couple CDs here and there and about 6 downloads, ever. Should I hunt down 24/96? Should I upgrade my TT and focus on vinyl? Or is CD going to have to be good enough? Possibly even some downloads for the kids' stuff to save cash.

I agree, and it makes me wonder if the whole thing is a publicity stunt. Like the Joaquin Phoenix "meltdown."

The word "same" never occurs in the text, which never contemplates multiple installs.

It says you can't use it in a virtual machine. End of story. End of discussion.

Vista Business and Ultimate include additional licenses to also run the same licensed copy of Vista running natively on the licensed device in a virtualization environment as well.

In other words, if you purchase or build a PC with Windows Vista Ultimate, you can use that same installation and license to install it in a virtualization environment on that same platform. That goes beyond what has been done on any other platform for virtualization, and why the limitation is specifically delineated on Vista Home:

You may not use the software installed[1] on the licensed device[2] within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system.

[1] This means "the software" (i.e., Vista Home Basic or Premium) is already installed on a licensed device.

[2] The "licensed device" is the device that Vista Home is already installed on, and that license may not be reused to also install it in a virtualization environment, which you CAN do with Vista Business and Ultimate, because Microsoft includes additional licenses specifically for virtualization use, which is why there are all these specifics about virtualization use on the lower end Vista versions in the EULA in the first place.

The Vista Business/Ultimate EULA on the same topic states:

    6. USE WITH VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGIES. You may use the software installed on the
licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system on the licensed device. If
you do so, you may not play or access content or use applications protected by any Microsoft digital,
information or enterprise rights management technology or other Microsoft rights management
services or use BitLocker. We advise against playing or accessing content or using applications
protected by other digital, information or enterprise rights management technology or other rights
management services or using full volume disk drive encryption.

This is because Vista Business and Ultimate include additional licenses so that you can use the same copy, legally ALSO within a virtualization environment on that same system. This is more than is possible with any other commercial OS, from a licensing perspective. The restrictions on Vista Home are ONLY restricting you from using it in a VM on the device where it's already installed. If you buy Vista Home standalone as a retail box, and it's not installed anywhere else, you are free, legally and technically, to use it in a VM to your heart's content.

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 Computer Speakers

I can't really recommend those B&W MM-1 Speakers. My wife uses them (see setup threat somewhere) and the sound really is quite a bummer. The design is awesome though. but for 500 eu or 700 dollars, I really feel it's a NO GO

The Harman Kardon Soundsticks II that I use produce a much better sound at a much better price.

    But h, that's me

After the Month of Kernel Bugs, are you concerned about Mac OS X security?

    No - 62%

See, that bugs me. Everyone should be concerned about security. I believe OS X's overriding security feature is obscurity, and once that situation changes I can see the OS falling over very quickly.

One of the weakest links in the chain is the user, and if the user is not concerned then you have a problem.

Dont get me wrong, I think OS X is great, but it just hasn't been "weathered" in the wild like Windows has. If OS X becomes a viable target then we're in for a bumpy ride.

OSX is based on FreeBSD, which has been around for an eternity and includes modules from even older Unixy stuff. There's paying attention, there's worrying, and then there's running around with your hair on fire digging for a bomb shelter with your bare hands. We're at the pay attention stage.
MOKB showed that the kernel can be a source of bugs and that OS design should incorporate this problem into the design. This doesn't mean panic or worry or take a pair of scissors to your broad-band connection, this means Apple has some things to fix. It also showed that wireless is inherently insecure and the problems with drivers can affect Windows, Mac OSX and Linux.
Again, MOKB isn't all that important, it's Apple's response to problems that really matters.

I think the phone could be a tiny bit thinner but not this thin. The teardrop design is best left with just the Macbook air (iPhone Air?). I'd stay close the the current design and maybe mix it up with the first one a bit. Must say I'm loving the screen and home button though

great news. I'd love to use iwork instead of office which is slow and crashy, but pages just doesn't cut it for me right now. What I'd really love is for pages to have a "notebook" kind of view like word does because that's much more convenient for taking notes in class.

Er, see that TextEdit icon in your dockbar - try that.

is this 4.8% for the quarter or 4.8% total market share? if the former, nice, but no big deal; if the latter then very big deal.

It's 4.8 % total market share for the quarter. ;)

It's more than it was and so it is a big deal. However, what matters is sustained growth not incidental spikes. If they continue to grow, they will have mind share as well as market share, especially with companies like Sophos telling consumers to buy Macs to keep their information secure.

Market share is an interesting figure anyway. It doesn't talk about the installed base, only about the very current sales figures.
